Republicans have been hinting at a brokered convention for months now, but what if it actually happens? According to mystery Republican Senator who spoke to ABC News, if Romney loses Michigan to Santorum the search will be republican-convention.jpgon for a late-comer to be the standard bearer.

A prominent Republican senator just told me that if Romney can't win in Michigan, the Republican Party needs to go back to the drawing board and convince somebody new to get into the race.

"If Romney cannot win Michigan, we need a new candidate," said the senator, who has not endorsed anyone and requested anonymity.

The senator believes Romney will ultimately win in Michigan but says he will publicly call for the party to find a new candidate if he does not.

"We'd get killed," the senator said if Romney manages to win the nomination after he failed to win the state in which he grew up.

So, let's play this out for a moment. We'll say Romney loses Michigan and the higher ups decide to torpedo his nomination. Who would they rally behind? Who would they choose to go against Obama? And who is the mystery Senator? Would they use the candlestick in the library or the noose in the conservatory when they say goodnight to Romney?

I'd go with Chris Christie as the nominee and Jim DeMint as the Senator. Who are your picks?
