TMZ Reports that singer Davy Jones of the Monkees passed away this morning from a heartattack. He was 66. monkees.jpg

I am very saddened by this news because he was one of my first loves - but only as his younger self. I first remember seeing him on the episode of the Brady Bunch when Marcia invites him to sing at the prom and he actually shows (this event would later me repeated in the 90s movie remake). Not long after the Monkees began to rerun on Nick at Night, and my crush grew even stronger.

I made my mom buy me Monkees' CDs and bugged the hell out of her for stories about how she felt about him when she was younger - I was around 8 at this point so I'm sure she had some questions of her own. Davy had always been my aunts pretend boyfriend, while my mom's was Donny Osmond. I envied my aunt clearly.

This crush affected my adult life. Thanks to him I have a thing for short guys who can sing and have the name Davy - to which my partner David, (called Davy growing up because of his mom's love for Mr. Jones) should be thankful.

I've included a couple videos after the jump to help you honor our favorite daydream believer. Mr. Jones - you will be missed.
