Here's an excellent recommendation from Madeleine Olnek, director of last year's popular Sundance hit, Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same!

Always a hard question, because there are so many that I love. But one of my favorites is I Shot Andy Warhol. Seeing this woman who was in the Warhol factory, amongst artists who considered themselves the most cutting-edge in the entire world, and meanwhile, she was too wierd, even for them! There was so much I could relate to, and told with such humor, and -- while it's clear she's totally nuts -- you can completely identify with her.

I knew nothing about Valerie Solanis walking in to the film (I actually didn't even know it was a gay movie!) and I will never forget what a thrill it was to see this unique and subversive story unfold in front of me. That the shooting at the end is still a shock -- despite the title -- is a statement of how intelligent and sophisticated the film truly is.
