What Social Scientists Might Tell Santorum About Same-Sex Parents

On the campaign trail, Rick Santorum has been repeating his false claim that same-sex parents are bad for children. It's worn out and tired rhetoric designed to ignite fear into the hearts of his evangelical base so they will vote for him. This misinformation flows from pulpits across the country but was perpetuated on a massive scale years ago by the founder of Focus on the Family, James Dobson. Dobson recently endorsed Santorum's candidacy.

In 2001, Dr. Judith Stacey and colleague Timothy Biblarz published a comprehensive review of the social science research on lesbian and gay parenting in the American Sociological Review.
