I've been watching GOProud co-founder Chris Barron's lovefest for Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson with some amusement. In a recent blog post, Barron talks about voting for Ron Paul in the DC primary, Pink Elephantbut prefaces his post with this:

Let me say up front that my candidate for President in November is former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson, who is running as a Libertarian. I believe strongly that Governor Johnson is the best choice for limited government conservatives who are committed to truly changing the way business is done in Washington. You can read more about why I am for Governor Johnson here.

Barron's bromance with Johnson isn't something new. He blogs about it, writes about it for other outlets, and posts it all over Facebook and Twitter. He's not ashamed to admit that he's forsaken his own party this election cycle and I guess I shouldn't be astonished to see how vitriolic he is about his defection.

Now that I have dispensed with the unpleasant duty of picking between candidates I don't support, I can look forward to November when I can cast my ballot for Gary Johnson for President. Until then, I am going to go take a shower and wash off the stench of having participated in this process.

Huh. The "stench" of the GOP candidates is a pretty strong statement coming from the founder of GOProud. I guess he's not so, uh, proud of this crop of politicians, but it's baffling to me why this group is so much worse than the usual batch of homophobes, racists, and hypocrites. I guess the knowledge that the GOP is bereft of visionaries in favor of missionaries is the, well, pink elephant in the room.
