Oh, this is too rich. Remember Indiana Republican lawmaker Bob Morris? He infamously claimed that the Girl Scouts were a hotbed of lesbianism and abortion. After a nationwide outcry, he retracted his statement while continuing to mutter far right conspiracy theories about Planned Parenthood and the LGBT community.
Republican state Rep. Bob Morris of Fort Wayne received just one contribution after his outburst against the Girl Scouts earlier this year.
His latest campaign finance report filed this month shows he raised $5,000 between Jan. 1 and April 13 - all of which came from one donation from the Northeast Indiana PAC for Better Government.
He's also managed to pick up an opponent in this year's election. It's too late for a Republican challenger in the primary, so prominent Ft. Wayne attorney (and Republican precinct captain) Michael Barranda will run against Morris as an Independent.
Said Barranda, "Ronald Reagan once called Democracy the most deeply honorable government ever devised by man. Over the past year the honor of Democracy has been challenged in Indiana - if not outright mocked in the 84th House District."
"As a Republican, community advocate and a concerned citizen of Fort Wayne, I simply cannot stand on the sidelines," said Michael. "I am a proud father of a Girl Scout - but this is not just about that. As a pro-life, Catholic conservative I personally understand the passion with which we should protect the sanctity of life. However, we must also demand that leadership not lose perspective at the expense of the good people of the community. Reason must prevail. Always."
