Lesbian-Prom-KY.jpgIt really makes me sad to hear these stories around this time every year - and unfortunately I can't remember a prom season in the last nine years since my senior prom that I have not heard at least one report of a similar event.

This year's newest barred-from-prom story comes to us from Lexington, Kentucky's Lexington Catholic High School (creative name).

Hope Decker, 18, and her girlfriend Tiffany Wright, both students at the school, we're banned from attending their prom together.

LEX 18 reports:

"What I experienced in the Dean's Office was blatant homophobia," said Hope Decker, a senior at the school. "We were told that this school has catholic principles and so they couldn't let it happen."

"At first I was really upset," said Tiffany Wright, Decker's date for the dance. "I mean, we both cried and then I was like, this is ridiculous. There's gotta be something we could do about this."

The couple and friends still tried to attend, but upon being turned away held their own impromptu outdoor celebration. They have also started a petition hoping to change things for future couples at their school.

Check out the video report after the jump.
