One, a crack athlete going public with her orientation. The other, a crack athlete of another, racier sort.

South African Olympic archer Karen Hultzer, via her partner Tracey Kim Saunders, came out to the South African media. Hultzer herself later made a lovely statement to OutSports, about equality in her home country, and her hopes for the future. Said Hultzer:

I am an archer, middle aged and a lesbian. I am also cranky before my first cup of coffee. None of these aspects define who I am, they are simply part of me.

I am fortunate that my sexual identity is not an issue, and I don't suffer the level of discrimination and violence that black lesbians in South Africa do. I look forward to the day when this is a non-issue and as relevant as my eye color or favorite sushi.

Meanwhile, we travel back to March as swim hottie Nathan Adrian lost a little dignity but gained a lot of new fans when a snap of the Speedo as he was just off the blocks showed the fans more than just his focus and sportsmanship. The wardrobe malfunction cost some dignity, but not the win, for Adrian at the 100 Freestyle Finals at the 2012 Indianapolis Grand Prix. [slightly NSFW photo after the jump])


Damn you, Nathan Adrian! I was TRYING not to sexualize the Olympics. So much for that. Wait, that wasn't the Olympics?! Sweet! We're good.
