"From what I understand from doctors, that's really rare. If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down. But let's assume maybe that didn't work or something. I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on the rapist."

- Rep. Todd Akin's (R- Mo.) answer to a question positing the case for abortion when rape is involved. The congressman's extreme views and obvious lack of knowledge of basic biology have prompted him to say something asinine and offensive. Why is a man commenting on a topic that biologically doesn't concern him?
