New generations need to harvest their talents and express their ideas, opinions and emotions through artistic means. However, the work of past generations also needs to be preserved for its cultural richness and educational potential. Society also must cherish the creators of said art as cultural donors, innovators and curators. While Mitt Romney proposes an economic plan that would defund PBS, the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities, the city of Buenos Aires shows it's support for the arts by giving special pensions to writers. Though the city's move is extraordinary and generous, it's unlikely any of our cities or states would follow the same path; however, subsidizing the work of artists for the benefit, both in the present and future, of society ought to remain an important part of the nation's duty to its citizens as a means for it to enrich the lives of the populace and educate the electorate.
