Asian Pacific Islanders Could Play Key Role in Elections

As openly gay actor George Takei notes in recounting his family's internment in Japanese camps during World War II, that it is critical that API voters grasp their importance of their participation in the November elections. Takei is advocating for President Obama.

This MSNBC story below indicates that 33% of API voters are undecided - but the API community is expected to vote in greater numbers than in 2008. "The quintessential swing vote is the Asian American vote," says Prof. Karthick Ramakrishan of the University of Riverside. In the swing state of Nevada, for instance, the API population is a 7.7%.
