Hurricane Sandy has passed and Rancho Bilerico escaped without so much as a scratch. While we got plenty of rain and some wind gusts, it wasn't strong enough to even knock down a medium sized limb on our block in Adams Morgan.

hurricane-sandy-spooky.jpgThe neighbors kept bragging that our area hasn't lost power in over ten years, but we still prepared with some extra water and candles. We ended up burning the candles last night, but only for the ambiance and lovely lavender scent. We also made sure to consume some of our "emergency preparedness pack" - Doritos, white cheddar popcorn, and cookies.

I updated Facebook ever few hours with photos and video of what it was like here, but I think I was the most boring storm reporter yesterday. All I had to show was a few trees blowing slightly in the wind. The photo at the right was the scariest I could snap - and it required Instagram to make it look vaguely spooky.

For any of our DC area friends without power, if you need a place to stay or hang out until the electricity is restored, let us know. We've got power, warmth, television and internet. Eri, my fellow Bil-Eri-Co namesake, is in town this week so you'll even get extra special company. We're willing to let folks crash here too. Shoot me an e-mail or call if you want to come over.
