Last night I ran in Washington DC's annual High Heel Race for my forth year in a row. My friend Will and I have made it an annual tradition, though this was the first year we went as a team - Eddy and Patsy from the TV show Absolutely Fabulous.
Usually scheduled for the Tuesday before Halloween, this year Hurricane Sandy caused a schedule change. Every year since 1986, queens have been lining up to run down 17th Street at 9:00pm. Some actually run, most just prance.
We decided on the costumes not long after last year's race, so we had a year to plan. After some thrift store shopping and wig buying last week, it all finally came together - and I think it was one of our best. I padded for the first time, and I think my ass was my favorite part of the costume.
And as usual, Will and I were running late. Since we were Eddy and Patsy, getting into character required an appropriate amount of vodka. I chain smoked the entire time we paraded - which I am not used to - but it worked out because everyone knew who we were. And maybe because of the extra nicotine, we actually ran this year rather than just prance.
Bil caught a video from the sidelines. You can see me at 0:50. Check it out after the jump and let me know what you think.
