Mission America's Linda Harvey, who has made a fine art and career out of saying over-the-top anti-LGBT crap, is calling for a boycott of companies that rank highly on HRC's Corporate Equality Index. She also wants concerned Christians to send letters to said companies, letting them know that by supporting LGBT employees, they have
insulted my family and my principles
Personally, I think this is an awesome idea.
Once Ms. Harvey and her followers abandon their Apple, Microsoft, and Google products (all 100s), it will be oh so much harder for them to spread their hate and bigotry on the web. And without United, US Air, Southwest, and Delta (all 90s or better), it'll be harder for them to get around to do it in person too.
Once their children are banned from any Sony, Comcast, Time Warner, or Disney products (100s), I'm sure things will get interesting at home. Which is probably a good thing, since the kids will need to bust ass in the garden and fields, since food products from PepsiCo, Kraft, General Mills, CocaCola, and even the much maligned (and perhaps for a good reason) Monsanto, all are tainted with the "sin" of supporting LGBT employees (all received perfect scores for 2013).
I could go on and on, but you get the point.
Personally, I deeply doubt that Linda Harvey and her people have the discipline to abandon even just the products and services from companies that received a score of 100 on the 2013 CEI. But I could be wrong, and if so, I'd say that being forced to do without all the elements of modern life, starting with computer technology, should be a perfect fit for their backwards, anti-progress mindsets.
Coming off a series of losses at the voting booth, North Carolina LGBT activists are preparing for a renewed push for state-wide employment rights for LGBT people.
In the wake of both social and legislative victories for the LGBT community, the Christian right is now trying to downplay the significance of the "Gay Agenda" they once warned was so important.
Conservatives opposed to marriage equality are flinging mud over who's to blame for failing to defeat it.
Same-sex marriage could provide a valuable injection of money into the state economies where it was just legalized.
It's tragic that bullying in Arizona is bad enough to warrant such a program, but LGBT kids in that state are taking refuge in a school program just for them.
Breaking down what Christian extremists are really saying when they call for "civil disobedience."
In Southern Maine, a young man is taking his own experiences with homophobic language in the sporting world and using it to try and make a difference.
Finally, I took yesterday as a day off (which I don't get often) and found myself on Netflix watching the German gay sports comedy "Guys and Balls," which despite not being a sports guy at all, I found quite enjoyable. So I'm including the trailer below as today's video.
