Anything_goes_original_sheet_music.jpgI'll admit, I know more about covers of this song than the actual original show. I've never listened to the whole score, I've never seen one of the movies, and my high school never did a production. So why am I using this song? Mostly Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

As a kid we had Temple of Doom on VHS (recorded by my father from HBO as was most of our library). Even though most critics and fans consider it the worst of the trilogy (I refuse to accept that the Jones spawns Even Stevens and meets aliens movie that some call an Indiana Jones sequel ever happened), it is still my favorite.

If you know the movie, Mrs. Spielberg herself, Kate Capshaw, opens the film with a rendition of Cole Porter's "Anything Goes" in Mandarin. I don't remember hearing the English version until years later, but it is so ingrained in pop culture, I'm not exactly sure when.

More recently, the song has entered regular circulation in my partner and I's less than sober sing-alongs. This came about by watching the gay classic, The Boys in the Band, last year. That movie also opens with "Anything Goes" - the Cole Porter version which morphs into the Harpers Bizarre cover.

Since then, it is the Cole Porter original with which we normally sing along. Because of this, I have to pick the original with its cracks and pops as my favorite.

There are endless covers of "Anything Goes," and I only have so much room for clips, so please help me fill things out by posting links to your favorites (if I missed them) in the comments section. Check out the clips after the jump and let us know who you think did it best.
