"Howdy," said LGBT icon Madonna as she took the stage Saturday night at the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards to present the Vito Russo Award to madonna-anderson-cooper.jpgCNN's officially out award-winning Anderson Cooper. GLAAD says Madonna wore a Boy Scouts outfit as part of GLAAD's year-long campaign to end the Boy Scouts of America's ban on gay scouts and leaders. I bet the Boy Scouts are thrilled to learn they've been put in the same class as some of Madonna's other outrageous award and performance costumes like "Like A Virgin" and Jean Paul Gaultier's conical-breasts bustier.

But real-life Ohio mom Jennifer Tyrrell, who cried "rivers of tears" when BSA ousted her as her son's den leader last year, told the audience: "We're making sure that no parent ever has to look their child in the eye, like the Boy Scouts made me do, and say that your family isn't good enough."

Cooper - who endured a faux attempted sexual seduction from Kathy Griffin during CNN's New Year's Eve show, acted as if he was surprised to be smacked on the lips by a woman, well, by Madonna. But he also got serious: "I am only here tonight because I've benefited from what they and so many others have done (referring to such activists as Vito Russo and Larry Kramer....[Being gay is certainly one of the greatest blessings....it opened my head and heart in ways that I never could have predicted."
