bachmann_not_running.pngIn a long, rambling video message posted to her campaign website, Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann announced today that she will not seek a fifth Congressional term in 2014.

Bachmann said in the video that her decision had nothing to do with the ongoing ethics investigations into alleged misconduct during her failed presidential bid in 2011-2012. (We believe her, right?) She also stated confidently that if she had decided to run for re-election next year, she "would again defeat the individual that [she] defeated last year, who recently announced he is once again running."

The 57-year-old Tea Party hero also vowed to continue fighting for her extremist values, including marriage discrimination:

I proudly have and I promise you I will continue to fight to protect innocent human life, traditional marriage, family values, religious liberty, and academic excellence.

Oh, and she reminded everyone that she really, reeeeally hates Obamacare.

Bachmann predicted that the evil mainstream media would view her decision unfavorably:

I fully anticipate the mainstream liberal media to put a detrimental spin on my decision not to seek a fifth term. Since I was first elected to Congress many years ago they always seem to attempt to find a dishonest way to disparage me. But I take being the focus of their attention and disparagement as a true compliment of my public service effectiveness.

And she reassured die-hard followers that she doesn't intend to completely retire from public life:
I want you to be assured that there is no future option or opportunity, be it directly in the political area or otherwise, that I won't be giving serious consideration if it can help save and protect our great nation for future generations.

I'm sure Ms. Bachmann's future will be plenty comfortable, what with the inevitable book deal, the lucrative conservative speaking circuit, Fox News, etc. But I'm glad that after next year she'll no longer have the title of "Congresswoman" to lend a veneer of credibility to her dangerous anti-gay views.

As the activist who exposed Marcus and Michele Bachmann's Minnesota clinic for offering discredited "pray away the gay" therapy and helped to thrust her dangerously extreme anti-gay and "ex-gay" views into the spotlight, I will particularly enjoy watching the curtain close on this phase of Rep. Bachmann's political career.
