The Dominoes Should Fall Like a House of Cards

Remember when the Pope gave an interview and said something all happy dippy feel-good about sinners and fornicators and abortion-loving loose women?

frabz-dominoes-house-cards-bullseye.jpg"We cannot insist only on issues related to abortion, gay marriage and the use of contraceptive methods. This is not possible. I have not spoken much about these things, and I was reprimanded for that. But when we speak about these issues, we have to talk about them in a context. The teaching of the church, for that matter, is clear and I am a son of the church, but it is not necessary to talk about these issues all the time," said Pope 2.0

"We have to find a new balance; otherwise even the moral edifice of the church is likely to fall like a house of cards, losing the freshness and fragrance of the Gospel. The proposal of the Gospel must be more simple, profound, radiant. It is from this proposition that the moral consequences then flow."

Apparently the Archbishop of St. Paul and Minneapolis, John C. Nienstedt, didn't get the memo about the rebranding effort. In a recent speech, the far right cleric went in the exact opposite direction.

"Today, many evil forces have set their sights on the dissolution of marriage and the debasing of family life. Sodomy, abortion, contraception, pornography, the redefinition of marriage, and the denial of objective truth are just some of the forces threatening the stability of our civilization," Nienstedt said. "The source of these machinations is none other than the Father of Lies. Satan knows all too well the value that the family contributes to the fabric of a good solid society, as well as the future of God's work on earth."

Now Nienstedt has been accused of covering up for yet another pedophile priest and witnesses are stepping forward to say he knew about the multiple complaints and run-ins with the law, but still assigned him to a new parish.

Can someone explain to me again why loving (or wanting to have sex with) a person of the same gender is "threatening the stability of our civilization," but covering up for rapists and child abusers is a-okay? That just makes no damn sense.

A "house of cards" indeed.
