When the gay US Ambassador to Australia, John Berry, released a YouTube video last month to introduce himself to the nation, he referred to his "spouse," Curtis Yee. Peter Madden, a far right Aussie politician from the Family First party, took to Twitter in response to demand Ambassador Berry resign for "deliberate contravention of Aus law" and a "diplomatic slight." He also claimed that Berry got married shortly before assuming his post to "flaunt his agenda."
Berry has no intention of resigning.
John Berry:YouTube "my spouse"? A clear & deliberate contravention of Aus law! As US Ambassador he knows this! It's a deliberate challenge!— Peter Madden (@petermadden2u) October 1, 2013
Aus needs to call for the resignation of US gay Ambassador John Berry unless there is a clear apology for his diplomatic slight— Peter Madden (@petermadden2u) October 1, 2013
And, of course, Madden is now playing the victim.
The abuse&filth I've received overnight, coupled with support of John Berry's slight, speaks clearly of the rebellious element he represents— Peter Madden (@petermadden2u) October 1, 2013
Berry's introduction video is after the break.
