maddow_gop_shutdown.jpgAs one might imagine, the late-night pundits had a field day yesterday evening as the countdown clock ticked towards a GOP-sponsored government shutdown.

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow ripped the Republican Party, pointing out that the Republicans have to shut down the government ever since they captured the House in the 2010 midterms.

"There is only one major party of the two that strives for control in government specifically because that is the place from which you can hurt government the worst... What is happening tonight is happening tonight because this is what Republicans want to do, this is what they promised to do. This tactic... is an end in and of itself, and that is why there is no talking them out of it. Elect Republicans and they will burn the place down. And they will laugh while they do it..."

Jon Stewart was even more candid: "It's a f***ing law... Did you see the Giants game on Sunday? They lost 31-7. And you know what the Giants didn't say after that game? 'If you don't give us 25 more points by midnight on Monday, we will shut down the f***in' NFL.'"

My reaction to the shutdown is here. What's yours?
