hrclogobig.jpgVice President Joe Biden has canceled a scheduled appearance at the Human Rights Campaign gala dinner on Saturday citing the government shutdown.

Vice President Joe Biden is canceling a speech to an influential gay rights group and an appearance at a Democratic fundraiser because of the government shutdown.
President Barack Obama has also canceled events while much of the federal government remains shut down. Obama canceled an appearance at a glitzy Congressional Hispanic Caucus event Wednesday and has scaled back his upcoming trip to Asia.

In a disastrous organizing snafu, HRC and other LGBT orgs have been pushing their members to lobby Congress on ENDA this week even though the staff members and interns who would take the messages have been furloughed and remaining staff are on edge and overworked thanks to the shutdown.

What's next? A rally at the Lincoln Memorial? A cocktail reception at the Smithsonian? Maybe a mass wedding ceremony on the National Mall?

Hopefully, the Vice President's cancellation will remind HRC that something important is going on. Like it or not, he shut them down too.
