pamela-raintree-shreveport.jpgLast month, the city council in Shreveport, Louisiana passed on a 6-1 vote an ordinance banning discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The lone dissenter was Councilman Ron Webb, who said just before the vote, "The Bible even tells you that homosexuals is [sic] an abomination."

Ten days after losing the vote, Webb introduced a proposal to repeal the new nondiscrimination ordinance. Webb's proposal was scheduled to come up for a vote at a city council meeting on Tuesday, and dozens of LGBT people and allies showed up to testify against it.

But it was Pamela Raintree, a trans woman, who saved the day. KMSS-TV reports that she testified about the discrimination she's faced and about how proud she was when her city finally voted for fairness.

Raintree closed her remarks by throwing the Bible right back at Webb. "Leviticus 20:13 states, 'If a man also lie with mankind as he lieth with a woman, they shall surely put him to death,'" she said. Then Raintree picked up a large rock and looked at the councilman. "I brought the first stone, Mr. Webb, in case that your Bible talk isn't just a smokescreen for personal prejudices."

The room burst into applause, and minutes later, Councilman Webb withdrew his proposal. Fairness in Shreveport was saved.

Watch the amazing video of Raintree calling Webb's bluff, after the jump.
