lucas_david_marriage_proposal.jpgRemember Lucas, the West Hollywood man we met earlier this week who arranged a fake surprise birthday party for his boyfriend David so he could ask him to marry him?

Video of Lucas's marriage proposal went viral, racking up thousands of views. (It's after the jump, in case you missed it.) One of those views happened to be from a man who used to bully him in high school, and he was so moved by what he saw that he contacted Lucas on Facebook. He wrote:

I'm sure you have no idea who I am. I went to high school with you. If you do remember me, it's probably not positive as I was a bit of a asshole back then. I saw your video today on Faebook and wanted to say Congratulations! No need to respond I just wanted you to know that I think what you have is awesome and wish you the best.

Lucas responded that yes, he remembered him and no, those memories weren't pleasant ones, but that he was moved to tears by the man's change of heart. "[I]t's clear that whoever you were back then, you've grown and you're a pretty kickass guy now," Lucas wrote. The former bully said he was grateful: "I do thank you for your forgiveness[;] the 30-yr-old [me] is a lot different than the 18-yr-old." He also gave Lucas permission to share their correspondence.

Lucas told The Daily Grind that the whole exchange gave him a wonderful sense of closure.

"...he wasn't one of the worst [bullies], but to me his apology felt like it spoke for all the people who used to pick on me. Like there was a sad little boy inside me and somebody went up to him and said, 'Hey buddy. Don't worry anymore. We like you.' It was really healing. I meant every word when I said he had given me a gift. I feel incredible."

As mentioned above, the video of Lucas proposing to David that prompted this heartwarming apology is after the jump.
