afa-tornado-strike.gifThe EF3 tornado that ripped through the small city of Tupelo, Mississippi on Monday narrowly missed the headquarters of the infamously homophobic American Family Association, an SPLC-certified anti-gay hate group.

The group's building on Park Gate Drive was smack dab in the middle of the tornado's path, according to local news reports. But on his radio show yesterday, AFA spokesman Bryan Fischer said that the headquarters were "untouched" by the twister.

The estimated 2,000 residences and 100 commercial structures in Tupelo that were damaged or destroyed in the storm weren't so lucky.

As bloggers Enzo and Joe Jervis point out, the gays are routinely blamed for natural disasters including tornadoes, hurricanes, meteor strikes, and earthquakes. Don't count on the fundies giving us any credit for passing over the AFA, though.
