"[Author Jo Becker] chose to give us a shallow and incomplete history that fetishizes the role of celebrities and PR hacks and either trashes or ignores the real heroes who fought for years to help make the moment possible. That vapid gay men are attempting to re-write history by centering themselves is not news. That they conscripted a New York Times reporter to do the heavy lifting for them certainly is."

-- Prominent NYC-based gay donor and LGBT movement leader Andrew Lane, criticizing New York Times reporter Jo Becker's controversial new book, "Forcing the Spring," and HRC President Chad Griffin in remarks given to the Washington Blade. Becker's book claims that the cause of marriage equality "had largely languished in obscurity" prior to Griffin's arrival on the scene in 2008 and calls him the Rosa Parks of the equal marriage movement.

Jo Becker is not related to this reporter.
