scales_justice.jpgThe Associated Press and BuzzFeed are reporting that a federal judge has just denied Idaho Republican Governor Butch Otter's request for same-gender marriages to be put on hold while the state appeals yesterday's ruling striking down Idaho's marriage discrimination amendment.

The Idaho Statesman reports:

U.S. District Magistrate Judge Candy Dale wrote Wednesday morning that Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter's appeal isn't likely to succeed, and so there's no reason to keep same-sex couples from seeking marriage licenses or marrying on Friday. On Tuesday, Dale struck down Idaho's same-sex marriage ban in response to a lawsuit from four Idaho couples.

Dale said Idaho's law unconstitutionally denies gay and lesbian couples their fundamental right to marry and wrongly stigmatizes their families. She said the state must start issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples Friday morning.

It's looking more and more likely that same-sex couples in the Gem State will be able to obtain marriage licenses on Friday when that ruling takes effect! I can't wait to see the Twitter temper tantrums that Bryan Fischer is sure to unleash.

In other marriage equality news, U.S. District Judge Michael McShane has just rejected an attempt by the National Organization for Marriage Discrimination to intervene in Oregon's marriage case and defend the state's ban after attorney general Ellen Rosenblum declined to do so.
