dale-hansen-dallas.pngDallas sports anchor Dale Hansen -- whose impassioned on-air defense of newly-out college football star Michael Sam went viral in February -- is at it again.

In a segment on his show last night called "Hansen Unplugged: 248 Players Better Than Sam?," Hansen celebrated Sam's selection in the NFL draft but implied that his late-round pick was further evidence of homophobia in football:

"Now you'll never convince me there were 248 better college players and better NFL prospects in that draft. 248 better than the SEC's Defensive Player of the Year? There's just no way."

He then slammed the critics of Sam's now-famous on-air kiss with boyfriend Vito Cammisano:

"[W]hen Sam was seen celebrating with his family and boyfriend, the world apparently shook, we almost collided with the sun, and yet somehow we have survived another day."

But my favorite line came at the 1:34 mark: "...I do not understand why so many people are so afraid of a gay man in an NFL locker room. I think the other players are gonna be okay. I've worked with gay men in my station and in my department for more than 40 years now and not one of those guys has ever hit on me and I'm starting to get a little ticked off about it!"

Watch, after the jump.

Dale Hansen is one badass straight ally. We need more outspokenly and unabashedly pro-LGBT voices like Hansen's in the pro sports world. Somebody give this guy an award!
