wedding_rings.jpgA new poll from Gallup confirms what polls have shown since 2011: that a majority of Americans support the freedom to marry for same-sex couples.

Even more significantly, the poll found that support for marriage equality is at an all-time high:

Americans' support for the law recognizing same-sex marriages as legally valid has increased yet again, now at 55%. Marriage equality advocates have had a string of legal successes over the past year, most recently this week in Pennsylvania and Oregon where federal judges struck down bans on gay marriage.

These latest numbers also confirm the dramatic generation gap on the issue: nearly eight in ten young adults (ages 18-29) support marriage equality. If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times -- Millennials are driving this seismic shift in favor of LGBT rights, and they're the ones who will ultimately take this civil rights movement over the finish line and protect our victories for years to come.

What a great time to be alive, eh?
