screw-you-guys-im-going-home-cartman.jpgLawmakers in Russia are still smarting over the stinging slap Europeans gave them last weekend when they awarded the top prize at the Eurovision Song Contest to Conchita Wurst, a bearded, gender-bending, singing drag queen from Austria.

Wurst's win came over the howls of homophobes in Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus. In addition to a recognition of her superb talent, Wurst's victory was widely seen as an affirmation of the European values of LGBT inclusiveness and tolerance and a rebuke of Russian-style homophobia -- a fact that Wurst herself acknowledged.

As we reported here at Bilerico on Sunday, politicians and celebrities in Russia freaked out over Wurst's win. And today, the temper tantrum continues: According to Agence France-Presse, some Russian politicos are so furious they want the country to essentially take its toys and go home -- to withdraw from Eurovision and create "Voice of Eurasia," its own totally-homo-free song contest, instead.

Via AFP:

Lawmakers in the Kremlin-controlled parliament picked up on swelling outrage in the socially conservative country at Conchita Wurst's weekend triumph by proposing a Russian-based contest in which family values prevail.

"The last Eurovision contest's results exhausted our patience," Communist Party deputy Valery Rashkin told the Interfax news agency. "We must leave this competition. We cannot tolerate this endless madness."

Rashkin said he would push for the creation of a "Voice of Eurasia" songfest instead, which would primarily group nations from the former Soviet Union.

It was a suggestion picked up quickly by advisers to Belarus President Aleksander Lukashenko -- a ruler who has overseen his isolated country for 20 years and was once branded by Washington as the last dictator of Europe.

"Conchita Wurst's Eurovision victory symbolises the complete collapse of the European Union's moral values," the country's advisory Slavic Committee said in a statement. "We do not need Europe!"

Gay Star News adds that Olga Batalina, deputy head of Russia's parliamentary committee on family, slammed the Eurovision contest as an event full of "nothing but propaganda of untraditional culture, including gay culture." Batalina said that if the proposed "Voice of Eurasia" contest comes to fruition, it will be fully in line with Russian laws banning so-called "gay propaganda."

"We [in Russia] have global events such as the Olympics, we can have our own contest," Riskin declared.

Translation: screw you guys, we're going home.

Well you know what? Sayonara, assholes. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
