zne-jb-harveymilk.jpgThis afternoon -- on Harvey Milk Day -- the United States Postal Service's new Harvey Milk postage stamp will be unveiled at the White House. As previously reported here at Bilerico, the stamp is the first in U.S. history to feature an openly LGBT elected official.

The first-day-of-issue dedication ceremony, which begins at 3:00 P.M. Eastern (noon Pacific Time), is hosted by the White House Office of Public Engagement, the United States Postal Service and the Harvey Milk Foundation. Click here to watch live at 3:00, and follow along on social media under the hashtag #HarveyMilkStamp.

The White House adds, via press release:

The event will feature remarks by U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senator Tammy Baldwin, Representative John Lewis, Deputy Postmaster General Ronald A. Stroman, and other distinguished guests including the Co-Founders of the Harvey Milk Foundation, Stuart Milk and Anne Kronenberg.

The Bilerico Project will be at the White House this afternoon to cover this historic event. And I'll be proudly wearing my original "Harvey Milk for Supervisor" button to boot!

If you haven't yet ordered your Harvey Milk Forever Stamps, you can do so here.
