arizona-welcome-sign.jpgIn an update to today's great marriage equality news out of Arizona, Attorney General Tom Horne has just announced that he will not appeal Judge John Sedwick's decision striking down the state's marriage discrimination amendment.

Same-sex couples will be able to start marrying immediately, KTAR News reports:

Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne said he would order clerks to begin issuing marriage certificates to couples on Friday following his press conference.

Despite personally disagreeing with the ruling, Horne said appealing the case would be "an exercise in futility" because the chances of the 9th Circuit Court overturning its own ruling are "zero."

"The only purpose of filing the appeal is wasting the taxpayers' money," he said in a press conference.

Michael K. Jeanes, clerk of Maricopa County -- the largest county in the state (and home of Phoenix) -- announced via Twitter that his office is ready to issue licenses to same-sex couples:

Predictably, Tea Party Republican Governor Jan Brewer issued a statement whining about "unelected federal judges," the "authority of the states," and "personal agendas." Blah blah blah. Go get married, Arizona!

If you're having trouble keeping track of all the new marriage equality states, ThinkProgress has a handy map that's current as of this hour. It's after the break.
