michael-putney-florida.jpgMichael Putney, the senior political reporter at Miami's WPLG-TV, slammed Florida Republican Governor Rick Scott on live television for Scott's "appalling" refusal to take responsibility for his role in preventing marriage equality.

Putney made the remarks at the end of last Sunday's episode of This Week in South Florida, a political discussion program he hosts. He called his comments "a personal perspective about a politician who just refuses to take responsibility."

The Miami Herald reports:

"The governor says Attorney General Pam Bondi's fruitless and costly appeals of numerous court rulings against the state's gay marriage ban, Scott says, that is entirely her business, he doesn't have a thing to do with it," Putney said on the program.

"That is just nonsense," Putney said, then listing the names of other governors who recently ordered their states to drop court appeals.

Putney's right, of course: at any time, Scott could order Bondi to drop the state's appeal and allow marriage equality to become law in the Sunshine State. But instead, Scott and Bondi are fruitlessly fighting on, and same-sex couples in Florida are paying the price.

Scott's opponent in next month's gubernatorial race, former governor Charlie Crist, supports marriage equality.

Watch Putney's smackdown of Scott, after the break.
