John Oliver Asks: How Is Columbus Day Still a Thing?

Today is Columbus Day, when Americans pause to honor an egomaniacal thief who permanently disfigured and murdered millions, facilitated the sexual commodification of girls as young as nine, and touched off the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

Yeah, it makes no sense whatsoever that our country continues to honor this man with a federal holiday -- a distinction usually awarded to more worthy historical figures like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Martin Luther King. So we, like Last Week Tonight host John Oliver, are left wondering: how is Columbus Day still a thing?
