To help us achieve this ambitious goal, we need your investment. Most of you have been reading Bilerico for years now and while we've done an occasional fundraising push, this time we're serious. We need to find 50 of our most dedicated fans who will give us $5 a month for the next year.
We have some major upgrades planned for the site, but here's the one that will interest you the most. The "project" portion is ending. We're going to roll out the changes over the next few weeks as the site transitions to "Bilerico."
Readers won't notice most of the changes right away. Our content management system is on its last legs and needs a drastic update. It is in the process of being replaced currently. Our daily email will be revamped soon, we'll get a new mobile site, a new logo, and, of course, the site will be completely redesigned.
One downside is that while we're doing the upgrades, we've had to turn off most contributor accounts. Thankfully, we have a small handful of folks that have agreed to help us push through the construction zone mess and the headaches that are sure to result. We'll have some turnover, but things will be back to normal shortly.
Most of you are aware that Bilerico Project has always been a labor of love for the editorial team. A few of us have made a tiny pittance, but never an actual livable salary. Editors and writers have used the site as a launching pad for other careers in journalism, consulting, and progressive not-for-profit communications. We expect this trend will continue as folks join us for a while and then continue on to become leading voices in our movement, but we'd love to pay them for their hard work and dedication.
That's why we need you to be one of our 50 fans donating $5 a month. If we're going to grow and continue to attract top talent, we have to be able to make it worth the time and energy spent on Bilerico daily. The site is a 7 day a week job. Won't you help us out by donating once a month?
We're working hard to bring you the best Bilerico possible in the upcoming weeks. I can't wait to see all the changes implemented and I hope you'll feel the same. Thanks for sticking with us while we put up the construction signs and start laying a new foundation.
