Tuesday, Louisiana's "Marriage and Conscience Act" failed in committee. The bill is similar to Indiana's religious freedom restoration act (RFRA) that allows discrimination to LBGT citizens.

However, just a day after he Jindal formed a presidential exploratory committee for 2016 he announced an executive order to "protect people who exercise their religious beliefs on matters related to same-sex marriage."

"We will be issuing an Executive Order shortly that will accomplish the intent of HB 707 to prevent the state from discriminating against persons or entities with deeply held religious beliefs that marriage is between one man and one woman," Governor Jindal stated. "This Executive Order will prohibit the state from denying or revoking a tax exemption, tax deduction, contract, cooperative agreement, loan, professional license, certification, accreditation, or employment on the basis the person acts in accordance with a religious belief that marriage is between one man and one woman."

The order went into effect immediately and will remain in effect until 60 days after the next legislative session.
