ellen-high-school-promposal.pngAnthony Martinez, a gay high school senior from Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jacob Lescenski, his straight best friend who asked him to prom last week (earning them both viral Internet fame in the process), appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show yesterday.

Their parents, teachers from Desert Oasis High School, and a busload of their friends were all in the audience. Lescenski shared how becoming friends with Martinez opened his eyes and helped him come to support LGBT rights.

Ellen said she "couldn't love this story" more, and added:

"You know what? If that can't be an example for people in the world to know that... you know, that you have a date with your friend who you had a crush on and he's open-minded enough to actually do this -- we have teachers who drove in from Las Vegas, your parents are in the audience. Good for you.

"I just wanted to say I know that there are some schools out there that don't support this and wouldn't allow this to happen and it's really a shame because prom is very important to a lot of people... that's wonderful that [your] teachers and the school support that."

The segment ends with Ellen and Shutterfly giving Anthony and Jacob a wonderful surprise. Watch, after the break.
