Bio
Garrard Conley is a writer, teacher, and LGBTQ activist currently living in Sofia, Bulgaria with his boyfriend. A survivor of Love in Action's "ex-gay" therapy, he is at work on a memoir on the subject, forthcoming from Riverhead (Penguin). His fiction and nonfiction can be found in The Common, Spork, The Madison Review, et. al., and he was a finalist for Narrative Magazine's Winter 2013 Story Contest. He was a writing fellow at the Sozopol Fiction Seminars in 2012.
Before his writing and teaching career, Garrard worked as a Peace Corps volunteer in Ukraine, where he received a PEPFAR grant to visit 10 village schools and train teachers and students on HIV/AIDS safety. While living in Eastern Europe, he hopes to partner with several LGBTQ groups to investigate various "ex-gay" practices and help bring about the end of such practices.
